Emerging from the late 90's Taiwan indie scene when bands like LADYBUG were experimenting with post-punk and experimental indie, SUGAR PLUM FERRY came out with their brand of shoegazing post-rock. After releasing their first album the band went on hiatus while some members were enlisted into obligatory military service. In the meantime, guitarist Insecteens found time to compose for indie films like Spider Lilies. SUGAR PLUM FERRY recently reformed and recorded a fresh album of instrumental wonders even making an appearance at an international indie rock event in Japan.

PACIFICTION REVIEW:This much anticipated album marks the second effort by a group that spearheaded the Taiwanese experimental indie scene. On Thanks For Reminding Me, SUGAR PLUM FERRY offer delicate and precise instrumental pieces that build with arppegiated riffs, become animated with distorted layerings and often contain clever hooks in between. &Graverobber's Abyss& particularly caught my attention for it's darkly epic down-spiraling turns and hopeful interludes. Described as post-rock, occasionally slow-core, this CD is likely to catch the ear of fans of Mogwai, Seam, Yo La Tengo and Mono. |
