One of the first groundbreaking indie bands on Taiwan, PEPPERMINT has released two full albums and played numerous shows around the island alongside their peers BAD DAUGHTER and NIPPLES since they formed several years years ago. Shine's wavering vocal approach over music that can be folky indie or swingin' rock is reminiscent of the alt-rock group MAZZY STAR blended with the Japanese experimental pop singer SHENA RINGO. Recently, the band has made a short trip to Japan. They have also modified their name to THE PEPPERMINTS.
Shine - Vocals, Guitar
Tonpa - Guitar
Chingbow - Bass

TRACK LIST:
PACIFICTION REVIEW:PEPPERMINT's first album is a Taiwanese indie rock treasure which begins with Shine's bright and clear voice and acoustic guitar on the first track and soon dives into mysterious avenues of surf twang, hypnotic drumming and insomnia-driven rhythm. Paranoid pseudo-folk in the style of MAZZY STAR is present throughout the album yet it often gets hyper charged with edgy distortion and pained vocals as if some hidden schizophrenia is being covered up. Not only a collection of well crafted indie rock songs, Cool marks the roots of one of Taipei's most happening female fronted groups to date. |
