PACIFICTION REVIEW:

Designed like a Chinese restaurant menu listing band names and tracks instead of take-home delights, this melodic punk, post-hardcore and progressive metal collection of current Asian rock bands mocks stereotypical views of Asian Americans while hinting that there is more to discover on the Asian music front. NEW STARING OVER and NATURE LIVING from Japan and TOOKOO from China give us a glimpse of the screamo/emo scene abroad. KATSUMOTO from California unleash a true metal attack unlikely to be found elsewhere in this age while another California band, FAST PASS goes back to the roots of punk when bands sung about the radio. MY PRECIOUS is a female hardcore blitz straight from Singapore to be appreciated by riot grrls the world over. GOD'S HERITAGE, LOYAL TO THE GRAVE and CRYSTAL LAKE offer the new wave of Japanese metal. Well known throughout South East Asia for their indignant hardcore, KING LY CHEE contribute one of their progressive tracks. Coming from Brooklyn, DRIVE TIL MORNING's song contains an indie hipster vibe with its early REM tones and IGGY POP groove. Rounding out the comp are appearances by MIKE PARK and aMINIATURE, artists who helped spearhead the Asian American rock scene. You know what they say about Chinese food... After listening to this menu, you know you'll want more!
